- Expand Your Mind, Extend Your Life
Expand your knowledge by examining health, nutrition, and exercise theories that you may not be familiar with. Learn about the “healer within us all,” practice stress-relieving stretching techniques you can do at your desk, and discover new ways to revitalize your energy through diet and exercise. This is not an exercise class; although, the instructor will be demonstrating and teaching various stretching exercises as they relate to the lecture, so please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Stretch your body and your imagination in this innovative class.

- Weaving the Threads of Tradition and Memory: Mayan Weaving
Like many world cultures the Mayans express their traditions and beliefs through their art. In this class you will get a glimpse into Mayan history and culture by observing their weaving techniques and listening to the weaver as she explains the designs, materials, and stories behind this lovely form of textile art.

- Life’s “Journey-ling” through Art
Open the door to your imagination and capture your memories by recording your insights with an artist’s mind. Many of Casper College’s OLLI classes involve travel and field trips as well as experiences in nature and in the urban landscape that surrounds us. This class will help you create a journal in which to record events and observations in OLLI classes and in other areas of your life. While creating your personal journal you will learn basic drawing and composition techniques and discover your writing skills.

- Behind the scenes at the NIC
If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at museums, this class is for you! Take a tour of all of the hidden spaces, meet the staff and find out how exhibitions are mounted and collection works are stored and cared for. Unleash your inner artist with a session in hands-on creativity and take a curator’s tour of the current exhibitions. This is your chance to find out how museums operate from the inside out.

- Reflections of Heaven: The Art and History of Religious Icons
In this class you will learn about the origins of the sacred art form of religious iconography and its importance to the Eastern Orthodox Church. Along the way you’ll discover how Eastern and Western sacred portraiture styles diverged from one another and the fascinating church history and theology that explain why this occurred.

- In the Neighborhood: A Look at Casper’s Historic Streets, Buildings, and Early Settlement Districts
Instructor Dana Van Burgh has been taking photos of historic Casper buildings and streets for many years. Out of this interest in local history has come a project in which he compares archived photos of buildings and streets with modern ones. This class is an opportunity to take part in a vital project to preserve our local history; we will concentrate on buildings and sites in the West Yellowstone Highway District of Casper. Discover more about Casper’s rich history while you learn research techniques and delve into the college’s archives for information to unlock the past.

- Saddles and City Slickers: A History of Dude Ranching in Wyoming
Dude ranching has played a significant role in Wyoming’s history and has contributed to our “Wild West” image. Join us for an exciting discussion about dude ranching in Wyoming from its earliest beginnings to the present day. We will also enjoy a picnic lunch and conversation on the grounds of historic Ft. Caspar. If you have memories of vacationing on a dude ranch or memorabilia we encourage you to share them with the group.

- Home Grown Adventure: Exploring the Natural Wonders and History of Natrona County
How much do you know about the history and natural landscape of our little part of Wyoming? This class will investigate the geology, biology, and history of three areas close to Casper. Our instructors believe that it is much easier to understand a geologic structure while standing on one or to understand a plant when kneeling beside it. Local history makes more sense when learned on-site. All three subjects are packaged into this class as we enjoy three consecutive day trips to various areas of interest in Natrona County. Bring your lunch, board the bus, and set out for a terrific hands-on learning experience each day.

- Older Than Dirt: Adventures in Amateur Paleontology
This class is back by popular demand! The first two classes will be about working with fossils in a lab. If you took the class last summer this will be a good refresher, if you didn’t this is a great introduction to working with fossils. The third class will be a day trip to the Lance Creek formation area in Eastern Wyoming (near Lusk) where the Tate Geological Museum collects its dinosaur fossils. We will tour a few sites in the field and participants will have the option of prospecting for new sites or collecting at an established site. Fossils collected will remain the property of the Tate Geological Museum.

- Balloons 101: Adventures in Hot Air
Hot air balloons are the gentle giants of the air. Have you ever wondered what balloonists must do to get a hot air balloon aloft and what happens once they are up there? Wyoming will be hosting three hot air balloon festivals this summer in Riverton, Casper, and Cody. Learn all about hot air balloons in this informative class and then go out and enjoy a balloon festival this summer.

- Science Fiction and Fantasy as Social Commentary
Did you know that writers of science fiction and fantasy have regularly predicted future conditions of our society? In this class you will learn how to read and speculate on what two well-known science fiction authors were trying to say about conditions of society at the time they wrote their novels. You will also analyze how their stories can be used as commentaries on today’s society. We will learn to appreciate fantasy and fiction writing as never before by reading Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” and Anne McCaffrey’s “Freedom’s Challenge.”

- OLLI Ice Cream Dreams Social
July is National Ice Cream Month; help us celebrate by attending the OLLI Ice Cream Dreams Social. We will serve a variety of ice cream flavors and tea punches outdoors on the lawn between the Roberts Commons Cafeteria and the Goodstein Foundation Library. Enjoy the music of Anastasia’s Fault as you meet new friends and spend time with other OLLI members. We will also have a few surprises in store. The program begins promptly at 3 p.m. The cost is $3 per person, however, if you bring a friend who is not yet an OLLI member, you and your friend will get to attend for half price ($1.50 each). In case of inclement weather we have plans to accommodate this event indoors, so we will have a good time, rain, or shine!

- OLLI Knowmads: The Santa Fe Opera Experience
Founded in 1607, Santa Fe is the second oldest city in the United States; it is also the oldest capital city in the U.S. Santa Fe’s rich history, heritage, and world-renown arts and culture make it one of the great destination cities of the world. Santa Fe is the third largest art market in the United States and gourmet magazines continue to feature its fine chefs in their publications; the city is home to world-class restaurants to fit every taste and budget.
On our four-day excursion we will attend two lectures on opera, tour the historic Santa Fe Opera House, dine at the pre-opera buffet, and attend a world class production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff. Participants will also have free time to explore the wonders of Santa Fe from their hotel located near the center of the city.
