Today, an automotive technician must be able to decipher 465,000 pages of technical information. Casper College's automotive technology program prepares students for such a task.

National statistics show that the automotive industry remains a strong career option but that there is an increasing demand for better entry-level ability. Changes over the past decade dictate that students must know about electronics, fuel injection, front-wheel drive and computerized management systems. Casper College instructors train students in these areas with the newer-model vehicles that industry provides.

Housed in the modern shop facility of the Career Studies Building, the automotive technology program is one of 30 career programs designed to prepare students for the work force. Students can earn a one-year certificate or a two-year associate of applied science degree, which requires general education coursework with automotive, machine tool and welding electives.

Job opportunities in the field include dealership apprenticeship programs, independent automotive repair shops, parts supply stores and other industry-related activities. These can lead to a lifelong career in the field.
